We recommend that you take Barbados Dollars, travellers cheques and your credit and debit cards. You may find some travel companies recommend US dollars; however Barbados Dollars tend to be a better choice. Both currencies are accepted throughout the island and the exchange rate is fixed between the two. There is a cash machine near the hotel which accepts Maestro and Credit Cards.
Daily temperature on the island will be 28-30C. Generally some rain will fall; usually there is a heavy tropical shower once a day, which clears the air.
Please don’t forget to bring your sun cream!
Here’s a checklist of everything that you’ll need to bring with you, it’s not exhaustive and I’m sure there are things that are missed out:
Valid Passport
Valid Travel Insurance
Money (either USD or BBD)
US adapter for power points
Dive certificate (only if qualified)
Valid Driving license (if you want to drive)
Plenty of Sun cream, a beach towel and sunglasses
Please remember that you are not able to wear camouflage as it’s illegal on the Island!
The below is the initial information I gathered on dates and rough prices. However it now seems most people cannot do June, this should give you all a rough guide to prices though
I have some options for you for Barbados:
I’ve chosen the weekend of 2/3 June as this way people will be able to take advantage of the 2 bank holidays on 4 & 5 June. If this date is no good just let me know. The flights are out of Gatwick with Virgin for 14 nights. I have for the moment just checked availability based on 8 passengers, 2 per room. If you narrow down the hotel choices and the dates are ok I can check out for higher numbers and see what group discounts would be available.
I have stuck with hotels close to or in St Lawrence Gap, I have not found availability for the South Gap Hotel but I think there might be some good choices here:
